The Funkhouser Family

james.alex.funkhouser Wounded Warriors Family Support recently hosted Jennifer Funkhouser and her daughters, Kaitlyn and Allison, at the Wounded Warriors Family Support Bahama Bay condominium in Orlando.

Her husband, Captain James "Alex" Funkhouser, died of wounds on May 29, 2006.

He joined the Army in July 1991 as an enlisted soldier and worked his way through the ranks to staff sergeant. He then took a "Green to Gold" scholarship and was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the US Army by his father on August 6, 1999.

Captain Funkhouser deployed to Iraq with the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division based in Fort Hood, Texas.

My family just got back last week from the Bahama Bay condo. I kept the secret from my daughters for almost half a year and didn't tell them until the morning that we drove through the Disney gate. My girls were so excited they were screaming the whole time in the car until we parked.

My oldest daughter asked about why there was a picture of a Marine in the condo (she said Soldier, but we all know the difference between Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors). I explained to her about you and what you do for families like us. She was very quiet about it for awhile and then exclaimed that we needed to send you a picture of us at Disney as a thank you. So, that's what I'm going to do.

I know that there is no way that I can truly show you the thanks that you deserve, but I hope you can see the happiness on my girls' faces.
